Meet Our Team:

HEV-TRC Project Team

There are an estimated 20 million cases of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection every year globally. HEV gets transmitted through the fecal-oral route and mainly due to use of contaminated water.
Mortality rate in pregnant women can be upto 20-25% due to HEV. No vaccine is currently available in India or elsewhere except China, for public use against HEV.
This multi-institutional collaborative project aims to develop a recombinant vaccine against HEV.
The study involves production and characterization of a recombinant vaccine candidate; clinical and immunological characterization of HEV infected patient cohort; identification of potential vaccine recipient cohort and development of HEV surveillance mechanism.
