Dr. Sam J. Mathew, is an Associate Professor at Regional Centre for Biotechnology. He is an expert in the area of Stem Cell-mediated Regeneration and Disease.
He received his PhD from the University of Cologne, Germany and did Postdoctoral research at the University of Utah, USA.
Based on his experience and knowledge, his laboratory is working on the Genetics of Vertebrate Skeletal Muscle Development.
Dr. Mathew is an expert in his area of research and was awarded a Wellcome-DBT India Alliance intermediate fellowship. He has several publications in journals of national and international repute.
Presently, his group is working on Genetics of Vertebrate Skeletal Muscle Development, Differentiation, Stem Cell-mediated Regeneration and Disease. His team is interested in studying the vertebrate skeletal muscle, which is crucial to locomotion, posture, and metabolic regulation among other functions. His team is currently trying to understand how skeletal muscle differentiation happens during embryonic development as well as during adult muscle regeneration after injury or disease using animal models and in vitro techniques.
