Dr. Ramu S Vemanna is an Assistant Professor at Regional Centre for Biotechnology. He is an expert in the area of Plant Molecular biology and Genetic Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Biotechnology, Bangalore University in 2013. After his doctoral studies he moved to the Noble research institute, Oklahoma, USA on Fulbright- Nehru postdoctoral fellowship assignment.
Dr. Ramu have wide experience in many areas of plant biology. He did his doctoral program on insect resistance transgenic plants and postdoctoral training on plant pathology and has good publication tract on abiotic stress tolerance of crops. He has experience in multigene engineering to improve plant abiotic and biotic stress tolerance mechanisms. Present at RCB his group is working on genome editing aspects developing new methods to improve the plant drought stress tolerance. Another focus is on identifying the small molecules to improve pathogen resistance on agricultural crops.
Dr. Ramu has received many prestigious fellowships such as Fulbright-Nehru post-doctoral award from USIEF, Ramanujan Fellowship from SERB, and Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award (IYBA) by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
